WebSkin

Project Overview: WebSkin is an exploration into the complicated and often uncanny relationship between physical and digital bodies. The goal was to create an experience that allowed the viewer to engage with my body in intimate detail, while simultaneously drawing attention to the mediation and anonymity that occurs when bodies become digitized. Using a high resolution scanner and my own body, I turned my skin into webskin.In doing so I dephysicalized the skin, removing the data and sensation embedded in my physical body, and questioning the role of our body as it is attached to our digital identity. This website is a magnified look at my body, but at this level of zoom it’s really not me at all. In my details, I am almost indistinguishable from any other white body on the internet.
